Welcome to the Prayer Zone

Here you are able to discover why we believe prayer is important. Shortly you will be able to submit your own prayer requests.

Why pray?

Prayer is worship that includes all the attitudes of the human spirit in its approach to God. The Christian worships God when he or she adores, confesses, praises and appeals to God in prayer. This, the highest activity of which the human spirit is capable may also be thought of as communion with God, so long as due emphasis is laid upon the divine initiative. A person prays because God has already touched his or her spirit.

The biblical doctrine of prayer emphasizes the character of God, the necessity of a person’s being in a covenant relation with him and his or her entering fully into all the privileges and obligations of that relation with God.

Taken from the NIV Bible Dictionary

Our life of prayer is about developing and strengthening our relationship with God so that we can discern the way the Holy Spirit is at work in us and see the range of ways in which we as individuals and as a community try to respond to the Spirit.

We are each unique children of God with different backgrounds, experiences and temperaments. We will each have our own preferred way of prayer. This leads to diversity. A worshipping community needs to build its unity on that diversity to enable all people, regardless of age and ability to take their place within it. Prayer shared in public worship and prayer in private solitude compose the twin needs of our personal and corporate identities.

The root of the word Spirit is breath which conveys a powerful image of God at the heat of all creation including ourselves. If prayer includes all the attitudes of the human spirit then all of life itself becomes prayer because all of life is God’s creation. Paul says it’s not quantity but quality that matters – what you do pray needs to come from the heart. Ephesians 1:15
